Carl Malmsten was an initiator and a forward-looking entrepreneur who ran an architectural firm and shop, started schools and designed furniture for palaces and ordinary homes alike. At the same time, he was a traditionalist and romantic at heart, who loved walking through wild-flower meadows. This is most clearly expressed in his patterns, both as intarsia on furniture and delightful compositions for wallpapers and textiles.
